Hey! We're Charge of the Light Brigade, a collaboration between songwriter Luke Sneyd and producer Marc Koecher, with bassist Jason Eagan (Clockwise, Ryan Luchuck), and Zack Mykula (Bella Clava, Inhumanoids) and Owen Tennyson (Blue Peter, Rough Trade) splitting duties on drums. A finalist in the 2007 International Songwriting Competition, Luke had two solo releases before forming Charge of the Light Brigade, Salvo in 2009 and All of Us Cities in 2007.
Our sound blends expansive rock with strong melodies and dense arrangements, in a distinct blend of punk, prog and pop. Luke's writing is tuneful and vibrant, underscored by themes of doomed heroism and the terminal tick of relationships gone awry. Our first live shows have already earned comparisons to bands as disparate as The Pixies, Muse, Social Distortion, Archers of Loaf, Psychedelic Furs, Joe Jackson and Spoon.
Our debut EP We Haven't Been Properly Introduced was released in the summer of 2010. Kevin Barber of Chicago/NYC blog Consequence of Sound calls the band "familiar yet experimental, different and polished." Alex Young of Fazer Magazine enthuses over the band's "rugged majesty", Luke "deliver[ing] his broken down beatnik poetry through a voice that hasn't been heard since Joe Strummer was laid to rest." The EP has received radio play in Canada, the U.S. and Europe.
We're just finishing recording our first full-length album, The Defiant Ones. The album's gonna have a dozen tracks on it, most of them brand new, plus a few re-worked songs from earlier releases. The record's a huge step forward for the band, and we want to get it in front of as many people as possible. The money we raise here will go toward recording and mastering costs, CD production, and publicity. We're planning on releasing it in January, 2011. With your help, we'll be able to launch The Defiant Ones with some pomp, a little hoopla and maybe even some pizzazz...
Any donations make a difference. And we've got some nifty bonuses if you can spare a little extra. Even better, we're giving $1 from every donation we get to the Canadian Mental Health Association. Let's see what we can do together!
