What's all that about? And how are we supposed to explain in any sort of detail what it is we're trying to do with our project?

The "Project items" are the items that fans purchase, like "donate $5 and get your name in the liner notes".
go to "my profile" in the user panel and click on "edit profile". That is where you add your project details and text. you can even embed video and pictures in there.
